Advancing Foundational Learning & Digital Literacy in Amasaman
Half of the World is OFFLINE.
In many peri-urban communities like Amasaman, children face a dual crisis: learning poverty (the inability to read, write, or perform basic math at grade level) and a growing digital divide, limiting opportunities for many Ghanaian children. Without access to functional computers or reliable internet, these children are left behind in a rapidly digitalizing world.
Project EdSpace deploys low-cost, offline digital learning hubs powered by Kolibri, an open-source, offline platform to deliver interactive literacy, numeracy, and digital skills training ( basic Coding and Responsible AI) directly to primary school students.
What We Focus On
Foundational Literacy & Numeracy
We deliver targeted English reading, writing, and mathematics instruction to ensure primary school children in Amasaman build solid foundational learning skills.
Bridging the Digital Divide
We introduce young learners to essential digital tools, tablet navigation, and basic computer skills, preparing them for a technology-driven world.
Offline EdTech Innovation (Kolibri)
Powered by Kolibri, we provide an open-source offline digital library, our learning hubs deliver curated software, interactive books, and educational games without needing live internet connections.
Our Story
During our past climate and food systems engagements in local schools in Amasaman, we noticed a clear pattern: many children aged 9 to 12 struggle to read or understand simple text and perform basic maths. This presented a significant challenge to our programmatic goals, particularly as we remain deeply committed to preparing youth for the Future of Work.
In response, we recognized the urgent need to address learning poverty and bridge the digital divide. This led to the creation of “Project EdSpace”: an offline-first educational initiative deploying low-cost digital learning hubs to underserved primary and Junior High School (JHS) students. By pairing local grassroots trust with international expertise, African Sustainability Lab (ASL) ensures that every project delivers measurable, long-term impact on the ground.
Our Vision
A world where every child in Ghana, regardless of location or socioeconomic background, possesses the foundational literacy, numeracy, and digital skills needed to unlock their full potential and thrive in the modern world.
